Complex design, procurement, and operation can make MBR package plants difficult to build and expensive to own. Extended lead times, lower-quality build materials, and limited lifecycle support further discourage adoption.
Most MBR package plant suppliers source their membrane technologies from overseas. Global supply-chain risk can delay projects and jeopardize Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance, while extensive upfront engineering adds cost and time. Some suppliers also use thinner gauge steel and lower-quality components, then provide inadequate startup, training, and long-term support.
Rapidly Deployable, Fully Integrated Wastewater Treatment Solutions
Complete MBR WWTP systems, BABA compliant factory-built products, turnkey options, financing, and the best service in the industry.
We offer modular, steel MBR solutions, using scalable architecture, turnkey delivery options, financing, and single source responsibility all geared toward faster delivery and lowest cost of ownership.
BLU|BOX steel tank systems deliver fast, configurable MBR capacity using standardized components and proven process designs. Available for flows up to 625,000-gpd, each unit can be tailored through standard options for tank material, membrane type, treatment zones, disinfection, seismic design, and delivery method. Built-to-stock inventory supports rapid deployment, while made-to-order and engineered-to-order builds provide flexibility for project-specific needs. With in-house process expertise, technology partnerships, and prebuilt components, M|MBR helps customers move quickly from project criteria to the right-fit solution.
BLU|BOX wastewater treatment (WWT) and water reclaim solutions include all process components such as pumps, blowers, valves, instrumentation, membrane equipment, and integrated controls. Primary components can be pre-built, factory-tested, skid-mounted steel products. However, site-built, commodity tankage can also be used. Tankage decisions depend on project requirements and customer preferences.
Preparing a new issued for construction (IFC) package can be time-consuming and expensive. At M|MBR, we’ve prepared IFC templates based on proven plant layouts across a range of flows and options. These templates make it easier for stakeholders to pick the products they need.
The BLU|BOX ecosystem includes 10 factory-built products:

Most BLU|BOX steel solutions utilize the same basic weldment. Tanks are roughly 9-ft wide, 12-ft tall, and 33-ft long with a working volume of about 20,000-gal to 22,000-gal.
Units are equipped with lower and upper porches that are 9-ft wide and 12-ft long. Tank materials, internal zoning, and equipment selection are adjusted to accommodate project specific flow requirements, structural specifications, and treatment targets.
The nominal size of a particular model is indicated by the number extension. The capacity of each model is site dependent and application specific. As a rule, a BLU|BOX can effectively treat 20% of the design/nominal flow rating on the low end and up to 125% of the nominal rating on the high end. For example, a BLU|BOX-250 is nominally designed to treat a range of flows around 250,000-gpd. This Unit can treat flows of 50,000-gpd up to 312,000-gpd depending on pollutant loading and treatment goals.
The actual treatment capacity of each unit varies by application depending on such factors as wastewater strength, biological treatment goals, and offboard process tankage. The M|MBR technical team will select the best fit model for each project after reviewing project criteria. A process guarantee can be provided with each project based on site-specific conditions and treatment objectives. BLU|BOX solutions can meet the strictest permit limits and the most stringent reuse requirements. Each type can be customized to match customer preferences and project needs.
There are four BLU|BOX Series, the BLU|BOX-25, -100, -250, and -500. The Series number represents the hydraulic design basis, but process capacity depends on connected tankage volume.

BLU|BOX-100 Units are built to stock. At any one time, at least 4 of these Units should be in inventory. Other size Units are Made to Order with delivery times between 22 to 26 weeks. Finally, in some cases, custom Engineered to Order designs are available in less than 32 weeks. Schedules can be expedited for additional fees depending on factory demand.
BLU|BOX Units can be installed by the M|MBR team or by a general contractor. Installation services include freight, offloading, piping, electrical connections, and winterization. Our parent company Veyra can provide GC services in some states depending on project size and type.

Complete Scope, Single Source Reliability
For this project, installation was phased. One BLU|BOX-75 was installed first along with the Equalization Tank and the Sludge Holding Tank. Two years later, a second BLU|BOX-75 was installed and one SPU20. The SPU20, shown in the middle between the two BLU|BOX Units, is divided into 12,000-gal of pre-aeration (oxic) volume and 8,000-gal of anoxic volume for the purposes of biological nitrogen pollution removal.
Complete Scope, Single Source Reliability
For this project, installation was phased. One BLU|BOX-75 was installed first along with the Equalization Tank, Sludge Holding Tank, and offboard Pre-Aeration (PA) Tank. Offboard tankage was site built to handle a future flow of 150,000-gpd. The current rated capacity of the wastewater treatment plant is 80,000-gpd. There is space for a second BLU|BOX-75 in the future. The second unit will be installed as demand increases. Using this approach the private utility owner can calibrate investment to match demand.
After selecting a flow, customers can pick from a menu of standard options to customize solutions. When it comes to membrane type, we offer a range of products from microfiltration (MF) polymeric flat sheets to ultrafiltration polymeric hollow fibers and UF ceramic flat plates.

Over the last 20 years, in total, we’ve built, designed, or are in the process of manufacturing nearly 200 MBR package plants. Some recent examples of successful projects are shown below.
Some examples of turnkey projects delivered over the last 5 years between 2022 and 2026 are shown below. Every project is different; each situation is unique. But a common factor for all these projects is BLU|BOX technology by M|MBR.
Normalized total installed costs go up for smaller plants (under 25K-gpd). For a typical BLU|BOX project, with design flows ranging between 25K-gpd to 125K-gpd, total constructed costs ranged between $40/gal to $50/gal.
