We offer modular, shotcrete MBR solutions, using scalable architecture, turnkey delivery options, and single source responsibility all geared toward faster delivery and lowest cost of ownership.
NXT|MBR is a permanent concrete wastewater treatment and water reclamation platform that combines CROM² tank technology with modular membrane bioreactor (MBR) equipment package from M|MBR. The result is a long-life, reuse-ready treatment system that can be delivered faster than traditional concrete designs and that is guaranteed to perform. NXT|MBR solutions can be configured for municipal, commercial, and industrial applications
In collaboration with CROM, and IWS construction specialists, M|MBR has developed standardized concrete MBR modules with capacities with up to 1.0 MGD. Depending on wastewater characteristics, these four sizes cover design flows ranging from approximately 200,000-gpd up to 600,000-gpd with peak flows up to 1.0-MGD. The treatment capabilities of a given design depend on site-specific pollutant loading, treatment objectives and other biological design considerations.
A NXT|MBR provides all the general advantages of MBR technology such as small footprint, superior effluent quality, reclaimed water, and phased installation.
But NXT|MBR does more than other MBR solutions. NXT also gives owners a durable infrastructure asset without the complexity and schedule risk of a custom site-built plant. Some of the advantages of a NXT solution versus alternatives include:

In collaboration with CROM and IWS construction specialists, M|MBR has developed standardized concrete MBR modules from 0.25 MGD to 1.0 MGD. Depending on wastewater characteristics, these four sizes cover design flows from approximately 200,000 GPD up to 600,000 GPD with peak flows up to 1.0 MGD.
Each NXT|MBR starts with a 35-ft x 35-ft x 16-ft deep CROM tank compartmentalized into four zones. The base module holds approximately 80,000 gallons of working process volume with a nominal treatment capacity of 250,000 GPD at municipal strength wastewater. Actual capacity varies with customer-supplied design criteria. Once process requirements are established, our design team can add tank volume for equalization and waste biosolids storage.
If additional capacity for any zone is required, another 25-ft extension is added using standardized platforms, stairs, piping segments, electrical, etc. The longest tank is 110-ft. At that length, a second train is added starting with the same 35-ft x 35-ft block. Up to three tank extensions to a block for a total train length of 110-ft. The largest, standard NXT|MBR is comprised of two trains with a footprint of roughly 70-ft x 110-ft.
Process equipment sits on a concrete apron extending ~8-ft from the tank walls on three sides. A fine screen platform anchors one end. Pumps, blowers, piping, and chemical storage run along the other two sides. An optional small building can house the MCC, UV equipment, and control panels. Standardized layouts, proven components, and vertically integrated delivery improve quality, reduce risk, shorten schedules, and lower total cost.

CROM builds the concrete tankage. M|MBR integrates the process: membranes, blowers, pumps, panels, piping, walkways, and electrical to defined tie points. One contract, one team, one accountable delivery.
Shotcrete tankage constructed per ACI-350. Corrosion-resistant, watertight, and warranted for 5 years with no conditions.
M|MBR installs and integrates all process equipment: membranes, MCC, control panels, piping, instrumentation, and appurtenances.
Full startup and commissioning services. Biological startup, process optimization, operator training, and performance verification.
Ongoing remote monitoring and operational support. STREAMETRIC-integrated where applicable. Experts available across the system life.
Membrane agnostic. NXT|MBR is compatible with flat-plate, flat-sheet, hollow-fiber, and ceramic membrane technologies.
We spec the best membrane for your application, not the one we are obligated to sell.
In 2004, our team helped deliver one of the first flat-plate MBR systems in the U.S. at McKinney Roughs in Texas. The original MPAC system was a compact stainless-steel package plant designed for 25,000 GPD.
Two decades later, the same site needed more capacity and a longer-term infrastructure solution. NXT|MBR answered that need.
The new plant increases treatment capacity tenfold to 250,000 GPD, uses membranes that are three times more efficient than the original system, and relies on CROM² concrete tankage designed for service well into the next century.
McKinney Roughs shows how far MBR has evolved. What was once selected mainly for small footprint and high effluent quality can now be delivered for a lower total cost than conventional alternatives. The 250,000 GPD NXT|MBR system was selected through a competitive bid process and reportedly 30% less than the alternatives. The site was built to allow for future expansion up to 750,000 GPD as demand grows.
NXT|MBR didn’t emerge from a whiteboard. It is the product of 20+ years working at the intersection of MBR process design and concrete infrastructure, including hundreds of projects where we integrated MBR systems into concrete tanks.
